Hi.

This newsletter is the result of a meandering path that included two businesses, a blog, the beginning of a book, many musical endeavors, and various other projects. Essentially, I have decided that all the ideas in my head are not as disparate as I had originally thought.

We will explore how groups of people best work together, and how it improves our lives drastically. As a change and transformation consultant, a musician, and someone just generally interested in connecting with others whenever I can, I have found myself knee-deep in all kinds of advice relating to working with others. And what I’ve found is that:

  1. Some of our deepest, most meaningful cases of group work are actually outside of traditional jobs, and

  2. A lot of advice about being in groups is either wildly overcomplicated (like elaborate models for every type of scenario you can encounter, or ridiculous personality assessments that supposedly help you understand each other better) or embarrassingly oversimplified (like platitudes and 1-liner social media posts intended to be thought-provoking but actually saying nothing).

I believe group connections are fodder for living our best lives and finding wholeness. I also believe that society (and social media) are detrimental to our understanding of our own and others’ complexity, and that that complexity is a beautiful thing.

I hope to bring in stories, research, tools, and my experience and expertise in ways that inspire you, and help you realize that all work with others is noble and meaningful. We don’t have to do something spectacular like build a company or invent some new fancy technology to say we’ve done cool things. I’m more interested in the stories of everyday people, and the groups they take part in.

Who am I?

Oh right, hi. I’m Emily. I’m a change, organization development, and organization design consultant by trade (incendiumconsulting.com), a musician and artist by (serious) hobby (emilyloganmusic.com and urbanwildlife.bandcamp.com), and a voracious learner. As a former journalist, I love to write and still itch to research, explore, interview, and share.

Find me on LinkedIn and Instagram.

Thank you to my incredible sister Sarah Nguyen for the header design.
